Robert ‘Bob’ Wayne Montgomery, 86

| January 22, 2022 1:00 AM

Born April 2, 1935, to Robert ‘Monty’ and Norma Montgomery.

In the early morning hours on Jan. 10, 2022, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, a truly remarkable man entered Heaven into the arms of Jesus with his wife and children by his side.

Nothing will ever replace Bob’s presence. He was a man with a heart full of love, kindness, grace, and generosity; he enjoyed living life simple and stress-free. He and his loving wife Pat raised three children in a loving home centered on God and His love for us. He would often be found reading his Bible and letting his family know “I will be praying for you.” Bob’s faith in God was unshakeable.

Early in his childhood, Bob began to fly fish and tie his own flies at the age of 10. He frequented the Sierra Nevada Mountains, spending summers with family, and this is where his love for the mountains and outdoors was born. The Truckee River and surrounding areas always had many memories for Bob and kept a huge piece of his heart.

Robert had a love for his country. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea until 1966, when shortly before his honorable discharge, Bob met the love of his life, Patrice Smith (Montgomery), and they were married June 25, 1966. They resided in Sacramento, Calif., and Bob worked for Stouffer’s Frozen Foods as a sales representative.

Bob was extremely relational; as many would say, “He never came across a stranger, just a friend he hadn’t met.” In 1995, Bob retired from Stouffer’s and he and Pat relocated their family from Sacramento to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Their move was a dream come true. Bob would often say, “I wasn’t born in Idaho, but I got here as quick as I could!” They loved the mountains and everything about North Idaho living.

Bob’s passion for fishing and the outdoors was contagious. When not boating on Hayden Lake or fishing the Coeur d’Alene River you could find him up at Silver Mountain skiing (40+ days a season) until his body would no longer allow him. He could even be found mountain biking on English Point Trails at 85! He loved watching football, basketball, baseball and every sport in between.

The genuine love Bob and Pat had between them for over 55 years was sweet and undeniable. It was truly something extraordinary. Even in their final weeks as husband and wife, their love proved to be as strong as ever.

Robert adored his family in every way. He is survived by his wife Patrice ‘Pat’ Montgomery; son, Mark (Nicole) Montgomery of Post Falls, Idaho; son, Eric (Gina) Montgomery of Hayden, Idaho; daughter, Karin (Mark) Bowlin of Hayden Lake, Idaho and his most precious eight grandchildren.

A celebration of life and light reception will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Real Life Ministries (Building 2), 1860 N. Cecil Road, Post Falls, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s honor may be made to the Real Life Ministries Hayden building fund.
