NIC: ‘Victory’ short-lived

| January 21, 2022 1:00 AM

Congratulations Christie Wood, Coeur d’Alene Press, and Coeur d’Alene power brokers. You have another apparent victory to destroy NIC’s accreditation. The first being Wood’s Human Rights Organization suing the institution for no legitimate reason except power, the legitimate non-renewal of a president’s contract, and the election of two conservative board members.

The latest lawsuit of Trustee Michael Barnes is a vivid display of intimidation. The matter of residence qualifications of conservative Trustee Barnes and liberal Trustee Howard were submitted to the Attorney General for an opinion, as the law is murky on this subject.

Liberals and power brokers treated Barnes with an immediate lawsuit threatening his personal finances. Trustee Howard, with similar circumstances of eligibility, was not sued. To not wait for a legal opinion from the AG puts the will of a few before the will of the people.

The gloating of the Coeur d’Alene Press may be short lived. The board now has four trustees that makes likely two-two votes. This is not healthy for NIC or the community. Three board positions will be open for the November election. Surely, the taxpayers, students and voters will learn the truth in the coming campaign.
