PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Post Falls notches league win at Moscow

MOSCOW — Lexi Heath and Capri Sims scored eight points each for Post Falls, which outscored Moscow 29-15 in the second and third quarters for a 41-34 win in Inland Empire League play at Bear Den on Tuesday night.

Moscow (3-10, 0-6 IEL) led 7-5 after the first quarter.

“We started to turn it over a little bit more in the second quarter when we got a little bit tired,” Moscow coach Alexa Hardick said. “They played really good pressure defense.”

Brooklyn Brennan scored seven points and Trinidie Nichols six points for Post Falls (13-2, 3–0), which plays at Lewiston on Friday.

Peyton Watson and Angela Lassen scored eight points each for Moscow.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior guard Skylar Burke scored 15 points for the Vikings in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs at Viking Court.

Coeur d’Alene closed the first quarter on a 19-0 run to pull away.

Madi Symons scored 10 points and Madison Mitchell added nine for Coeur d’Alene (12-3), which hosts Lake City in the Fight for the Fish spirit game on Friday.

Daylee Driggs scored eight points for Sandpoint (6-6), which hosts Lakeland on Friday.

PASCO, Wash. — Playing for the first time in 14 days, the visiting Timberwolves led by double digits, then fell behind by four points with six minutes left, then closed the game on a 16-4 run to beat the Riverhawks in nonleague play.

“I liked just us fighting through,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We got cold from the floor, and we had to do it a different way. We amped up the pressure. I liked that we got down and it pushed us to see how we responded.”

Kendall Pickford hit five 3-pointers and led Lake City (14-1) with 15 points. Emberlyn Reynolds added 13 points, Sophia Zufelt 10 for the Timberwolves.

Malia Ruud and Kaia Foster, both freshmen, scored 24 and 12 points, respectively, for Chiawana (5-2), playing for the first time in 18 days. Ruud, a 6-2 forward, already has interest from Gonzaga, Anderson said.

Lake City plays at Coeur d’Alene on Friday in the Fight for the Fish spirit game, scheduled to be held for the first time since 2020 after last year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19.

RATHDRUM — Addie Kiefer had 27 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists for the Hawks, who held off the Scotties in overtime in a nonleague game at Hawk Court.

“We pushed it to a five-point lead in overtime and Freeman chipped away,” said Lakeland coach Steve Seymour, whose team went 1 for 9 from the free throw line in overtime. “We had a chance to get out of there a little earlier, but it was a good win for us.”

Kiefer scored 13 of her 27 points in the first quarter for Lakeland.

“We forced a few turnovers and did a good job of attacking the basket,” Seymour said. “Freeman did a good job of taking away what was working in the first quarter. It was really a back and forth game.”

Landree Simon had eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists and Payton Sterling six points and six steals for Lakeland (4-6), which plays at Sandpoint on Friday.

Jaycee Goldsmith scored 18 points for Freeman (5-4).
