GOOKIN: P&Z slap unwarranted

On behalf of the seven members of Coeur d’Alene Planning and Zoning Commission, I want to call out Dan Gookin for his poor theatrics.

At the City Council meeting last Tuesday, he said the “Planning and Zoning Commission is “out of control.” To that spurious dig, I cannot let politics and his play to his audience damage our efforts.

This panel has seven unique voices and perspectives. We are here to look at each agenda item independent of who, what or where it is coming from. We are not playing to any voters and are not elected for that exact reason. We are proudly independent and respect ALL our panelists’ viewpoints. We do not have a Group Think going here.

As a council member, Dan, you often vote us down and that is your stance. Yet your fellow Council often agree with our findings. Your statement that the City Council follows along to go along is also disparaging of YOUR council. They have rejected our recommendations when deemed appropriate.

So to Mr. Gookin, our councilman, do not make our job even harder by your unfounded innuendos. If your grandstanding is looking for voter applause, please find another scapegoat.
