Banish March boredom

The great leprechaun hunt is back.

Visitors to downtown Coeur d’Alene will be playing O’Sherman’s Gold Quest the first three weekends of March, put on by the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association.

“It was really popular last year,” said Emily Boyd, executive director. “People could go in their own groups or family and go shop and have fun downtown, and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.”

She said over 200 families or groups participated.

Boyd said the event was the idea of Ilene Moss, owner of All Things Irish in downtown Coeur d’Alene and a board member of the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association.

The idea kind of came out of COVID because the association couldn’t host the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Because of the popularity and great response from all ages, Boyd said they decided to bring the event back.

“It was a fun way to get out in March,” Boyd said. “It also helps boost foot traffic for the businesses, which is always appreciated this time of year.”

The search starts March 4 and continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through March 20 during business hours. No registration is required.

Participants will stop in participating businesses in downtown Coeur d’Alene to find a hidden leprechaun at each location, following a map given out at the participating businesses. Each leprechaun will be holding a clue word, which when combined will lead participants to the “pot o’gold” at the final location.

Those who find the “pot o'gold" will receive chocolate gold coins in exchange for their completed map, and be entered in a drawing for gift cards. The drawing will be on March 23 and winners will be notified.

Those who purchase an item at a participating business can also receive a stamp on their map and earn additional entries for each stamp.

Last year there were nine participating businesses. Participating businesses will be listed at cdadowntown.com.

The St. Patrick's Day parade is also back for a 17th time on March 12, sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union. The parade will start at 3 p.m. at Eighth Street and Sherman Avenue and travel to the intersection of First Street and Sherman.

Parade registration is due by the end of day on March 6. Register at https://cdadowntown.com/cda-events/st-patricks-parade.
