Art show open at Emerge
“Continuum” is open at Emerge until March 5. It features pen and ink works as well as sculpture.
The show in downtown Coeur d'Alene features the works of Coeur d'Alene artists Terren Weirick, Louise Schollaert and Christina Villagomez.
Artist Weirick said he is a huge fan of abstraction. Weirick said artistic creation that has an underlying theme, but also lets the viewer make extra interpretations, has always been something he’s attempted to pursue.
In general, humorous, yet creepy and abstract visual stories have become one of Weirick’s most comfortable mediums of expression, Weirick said.
Sculpture artist Schollaert said she has been obsessed with clay since high school, and for the past two decades has made this obsession more than a hobby. Schollaert graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of fine arts in sculpture and graphic design.
In 2000, Schollaert moved to the Pacific Northwest for the arts, culture and wilderness and studied under inspiring ceramic artists in Seattle. She was a resident artist at Seward Park Clay Studio and a member of Rat City Studios, as well as a studio assistant at Pottery Northwest and Seward Park Clay Studio.
Schollaert recently moved to Post Falls, where she has a ceramic and personal training studio. She said she makes functional and sculptural work inspired by the whimsical illustrations of Dr. Seuss and the music of Thelonius Monk, combining wheel-thrown and hand-built elements that don’t appear to go together at first.
Villagomez is a tattoo artist and illustrator. She is primarily influenced by a combination of old fairy tale illustrations, art nouveau and pulp science fiction.
