'Love' comes to KHS

| February 16, 2022 1:00 AM

HAYDEN – Love was in the air Monday — and then it landed at the Coeur d'Alene Airport.

Wings of Rescue delivered 16 dogs to the Kootenai Humane Society from a high-kill shelter in Fort Worth, Texas. The canines ranged in age from 4 months to 7 years and included labs, shepherds, retrievers, Chihuahuas and Dachshunds and mixed breeds.

"We are beyond excited to have these precious faces in our care," said Vicky Nelson, KHS development director. "I know our community will be thrilled to meet them and give them that second chance at a happy and healthy life."

Wings of Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to saving pets, wrapped up its "Love Is in the Air" campaign with over 500 pets flown on nine flights in 12 days."

Its final flight Monday included the stop at the CDA Airport, and then on to Arlington, Wash.

The dogs will be available for adoption throughout the week. Once they are listed on the website, people can schedule an appointment to meet them.

Trails End Brewery, 356 W. Bosanko Avenue, is having a fundraiser for KHS from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

People are welcome to bring their pet and warm up by the fire outside. One dollar of every pint sold goes to KHS. A photo book of pets for adoption will be available.
