Toews announces Senate run

| February 16, 2022 1:00 AM

Longtime North Idahoan and father of five Ben Toews is running for Idaho State Senate District 4, a seat presently held by Sen. Mary Souza.

Souza is running for Idaho Secretary of State.

Toews graduated from Gonzaga University, then helped launch and build a manufacturing company in North Idaho for 17 years. He has been married to wife Elisha for 22 years.

His political aspirations include seeking solid, sensible solutions to community issues while maintaining individual liberty.

"I want to see our community come together and see each other as individuals rather than factions," Toews said in a news release. "The division in our nation is sad. I have a vision for a community where various ideas are respected and where thoughtful discussion drives us towards understanding and innovative solutions.”

He said he believes Idaho is moving in a dangerous direction.

"We need principled leaders who make decisions based on the values of their constituents, not special interest groups and big money,” Toews said.

Wanting to preserve the best that North Idaho has to offer is what motivated Toews to run for office. He said this is "a critical time for people who love their country to step up and lead."

"People are tired of sending their politicians to Boise based on promises that are never kept," Toews said. "I will be that one politician who does what I say I’ll do. I'm committed to raising the standard in the Idaho Senate by standing up for truth and the values that make Idaho great."

The news release highlights two prominent issues in North Idaho: inflation and growth.

"One solid solution would be to lower the tax burden on Idahoans," Toews said. "If elected, I will fight to lower taxes, ensure responsible growth and to preserve the freedoms we enjoy. “
