SPIRIT LAKE — McKennah Kronenberg might have had her senior moment for Timberlake High on Wednesday.

But, what a moment.

Kronenberg hit a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining, sending the Tigers past the Bonners Ferry Badgers 53-50 in the 3A District 1 second-place game at Timberlake High.

“We had two options based on the play I called,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “She was option No. 1 if she was open, but we had another shooter there to take it if she wasn’t. Fortunately, she was open and hit it.”

Timberlake (16-6) will face the winner of tonight’s game between Weiser and McCall-Donnelly in a state play-in game on Saturday at Grangeville High. Bonners Ferry finishes 10-12.

Kronenberg — along with teammates Jozee MacArthur and Emma Patrick — scored nine points each for Timberlake.

“It was fun for her to hit that shot,” Miller said. “She’s been struggling a little shooting the ball. We’ve told her, if she’s open, shoot and she stepped up and hit a big shot there. It was just a back and forth game and both teams played really hard. I liked our balance and that was good to see.”

Bonners Ferry sophomore Asha Abubakari had 27 points, including 17 in the second half.

“She had a fantastic game tonight,” Miller said. “We just had no answer for her.”

Sandpoint led 18-8 after the first quarter and held a 26-15 advantage at halftime. Lakeland opened the second half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 26-23.

“We knew that they were eventually going to make that run,” Love said. “But the big thing was that there was going to be a buffer there.”
