CDA: City on right track

| February 9, 2022 1:00 AM

Feb. 3, Bill Buley, staff writer for The Coeur d’Alene Press, quoted JD Claridge “If the City Council refuses to listen to the people, it will be forced to face the consequences of their actions.”

This threat was in response to the council’s consideration of accepting $8.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. JD Claridge was further quoted as saying “the City Council is not representing the citizens of Coeur d’Alene.”

As a “citizen of Coeur d’Alene” I must disagree on this latter point, and there was no evidence presented that his statement represented the consensus of a majority.

In the last election, the mayor and council members were duly elected to bring forth their collective wisdom to conduct the business of city government in a manner that is in the best interests of our entire community. On the matter of ARPA funding, the city sought counsel and, after studying the matter, made their decision based on the greater good.
