NIC BOARD: Why have five trustees?

| December 25, 2022 1:00 AM

For the first time I watched the NIC board meeting last night. I was really getting curious because of all the Press articles and letters to the editor. Basically, I now am wondering why there are five board members as it appears only three matter.

Questions were asked by the other two members that were not answered — why Mr. Macomber was hired as legal counsel when he is under investigation and what was in the contract of the president, Nick Swayne, that could not be discussed?

Even though the violation of open meeting laws were addressed and rescinded the same issues were reworded, if you will, and voted in by the three members that seem to count. No real discussion or answers.

Sports issues were brought up, again, no real discussion and passed by three.

Accreditation was briefly discussed but did not appear to be as important as the sports issue.

A new interim president was hired with no input and passed by three with his contract being briefly discussed — Evidently the three board members have made the decision, without saying, that Nick Swayne is out.

Currently there are, I believe, three lawsuits against NIC/board. Great, taxpayers pay, pay, pay! We need to recall at least two of the board members, maybe more.
