WENATCHEE, Wash. — The first two days of the Gesa Winter Shootout, Post Falls senior Capri Sims showed her sportsmanship.

Coeur d’Alene 68

Monterey Trail 56

LAS VEGAS — Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams asked Logan Orchard to fill some big shoes on Wednesday, and the sophomore did exactly that at Bishop Gorman High.

Orchard scored 18 points for the Vikings, while limiting Monterey Trail’s Varick Lewis — averaging 28 points per game — to 12 points in a win in a Spalding Bracket game in the Tarkanian Classic.

“Logan is one of our top two defenders and always rises to that challenge,” Adams said. “He tracked him the entire game. Varick took a lot of shots, but they were all contested. Logan handled himself really well and just played a great game.”

Max Entzi had 14 points, Steven Burgess 10 for Coeur d’Alene (6-2), which faces Foothill of Spalding, Nev., today in the third-place game at 3 p.m.

“We were a little shorthanded today,” Adams said. “But it was cool to see some of our bench guys step up and play hard, produce and play well.”
