Teacher charged with lewd conduct with student resigns
A Lake City High School teacher accused of having inappropriate relations with a former student has officially resigned from his position in the Coeur d'Alene School District.
The resignation of William J. Keylon, of Hayden, was unanimously accepted by the Coeur d'Alene School Board on Tuesday during a brief special meeting. The resignation was received by the district Monday.
Keylon was on administrative leave since August after turning himself in after a judge issued a $100,000 warrant for his arrest. He was charged with lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16, a felony punishable by up to life in prison.
The inappropriate relationship allegedly began in 2012 and continued for years while the student attended Lake City High School.
The former student, now an adult, reportedly told police Keylon engaged in sexual activity with her on several occasions when she was between the ages of 15 and 18.
The district had placed Keylon on administrative leave pending the outcome of legal proceedings. He was a teacher at Lake City since 2003.
Keylon was arraigned last week and pleaded not guilty, according to iCourt, the Idaho court records online portal. A jury trial is scheduled for March 13.
