NIC: Swayne needed to lead college

| December 21, 2022 1:00 AM

On Thursday, Dec. 8, The North Idaho College Board of Trustees passed a vote to place President Nick Swayne on immediate administrative leave. I remember, I was in conversation with my friend about the future of NIC, and various board actions and concerns and I looked down at my phone to read “NIC’s Swayne placed on administrative leave.” Immediately, my heart sank. This far surpassed any other concern I have ever had about North Idaho College. Without Swayne, I am very worried about the future of NIC.

I deeply care about, and love, North Idaho College. Since the fall of 2021, I have attended almost every Board of Trustees meeting. Additionally, I had a conversation with each of the five presidential candidate finalists before their interview with the Board of Trustees. After speaking with every candidate and listening to their public forum, I was able to make an informed decision. Dr. Nick Swayne was my first choice. His student-oriented approach, personable nature, paired with his extensive experience and accomplishments, assured me that he would be able to effectively serve the college during this rough time. He has gone above and beyond, and demonstrated expertise, kindness and wisdom during his time in leadership at the institution. When I learned that he was placed on administrative leave, I was devastated. He is the strong, wise leader that NIC needs.
