Stephen Bruce Fitzmaurice, 73
After a life well lived, Stephen Bruce Fitzmaurice, 73, left this timeline Nov. 20, 2022, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He suffered a thalamic hemorrhage in his brain that could not be controlled, and died 35 hours after the beginning of the event.
He was a friend to all, loved by many and is sorely missed.
He and his wife, Peggy, transplanted to Oroville, Calif., from the Bay Area in 1979, where they raised their son, Berkeley, in the safe environs of rural living. He first worked for a heat and air company but soon switched to advertising with The Digger Shopper News and The Oroville Mercury News.
He was headhunted by Endeavor Homes in Oroville and managed their sales team for 12 years when he retired and left to — literally — become a world traveler.
In 2000, he and Peggy bought a VW camper van and toured Europe and the British Isles for 13 months. They repeated these long-term visits two more times over the course of 17 years.
In 2010 following their son to Coeur d Alene, Idaho, they purchased a house and began renovating it over a 5-year period.
Living in Coeur d'Alene proved to be a fisherman’s haven with abundant lakes and rivers nearby and Bruce took advantage of as many as possible.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Harris, his son Berkeley Venn, his brother Bill Fitzmaurice (Laura) and a group of chosen friends who were considered family.
A memorial service will be held in Coeur d'Alene in the late spring or early summer.
