NIC ACCREDITATION: Loss will destroy the college

| December 14, 2022 1:00 AM

Since the Board of Trustees at NIC seems to think loss of accreditation is fake news, I’d like to inform everyone what this would mean. A sanction is the first step. The accrediting board can move forward with taking the accreditation from NIC for failure to comply with said sanction.

Loss of accreditation would mean all dual-enrollment programs would cease to exist. No more would high school students be allowed to take classes for college credit, as those college credits wouldn’t count toward anything. It would be a waste of time and money for students and parents alike.

All the satellite programs at NIC: University of Idaho, Boise State, Lewis and Clark, would cease to exist. Those universities cannot have programs at a school that is not accredited.

The athletic programs would no longer be eligible to compete in the conferences in which they are a part. The school would no longer be eligible so therefor, athletics would not. Athletic programs would cease.

The nursing school may maintain its accreditation, however, it cannot support nor sustain the entire college.

The workforce and certificate programs may survive. They, too, cannot sustain the entire college.

The loss to the greater community and the larger North Idaho will be economically and educationally devastating.

What a travesty!
