PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Lapwai's Wynott drops 40 on Post Falls

| December 7, 2022 1:15 AM

POST FALLS — The first high school shot-clock game in North Idaho was played Tuesday night at The Arena.

But neither team, in particular Lapwai and junior Kase Wynott, didn’t need it.

Wynott, who holds a scholarship offer from Montana State, poured in 40 points as the Wildcats beat the Post Falls Trojans 72-54 in nonleague play Tuesday night.

“He was standing down by our bench toward the end of the game, and I told him he was better than advertised,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said.

The 6-foot-6 Wynott scored 22 of his points in the second half for Lapwai, in its season opener. He made 14 field goals (four of them 3-pointers), and hit 8 of 9 from the line.

“I thought he played the game the right way; he never got rattled, never lost his composure … it was impressive,” McLean said. “We tried to double him, tried to run guys at him. He was able to take on the dribble, take one or two dribbles and rise up. I haven’t seen that since (former Post Falls star) Connor Hill. He has a man’s jump shot.”

Terrell Ellenwood-Jones added 17 points, Ahlius Yearout 11 for Lapwai.

Sophomore Tyras Blake scored 15 of his 22 points in the first half for Post Falls (0-4). He finished with three 3s, as did Trenton McLean, who scored 10.
