Gregory Lynn Gilliland, 71

| December 3, 2022 1:00 AM

Gregory (Greg) was born in Pasco, Wash., living the first few years of his life in Kennewick, Wash., before moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with his family in 1953.

Greg was born an identical twin and was proud of the fact that he was the oldest of the pair by 12 minutes. He and his twin brother, Joseph Lynn, were nearly inseparable most of their lives.

Greg is survived by his older brother, Gary, an older sister, Kathleen Olson, and a younger sister, Rebecca Bridges.

In the early years of their life, Greg and Joe looked so much alike that only the immediate family could tell them apart. They had fun in school switching classes and dating each other’s girlfriends, creating some interesting situations.

After his school years, Greg joined the Army as a helicopter gunner and crew chief. He served a tour in Vietnam. During the conflict, his helicopter was shot down by the Viet Cong. He escaped injury and capture.

After he was discharged, he returned to Coeur d’Alene, where he worked with his brother, Joe, in housing construction. Greg was initially involved in framing, but later became a talented drywall specialist. His much-sought-after skills led to his drywalling countless homes and commercial buildings all over the North Idaho and the Spokane areas. Later, he developed his skills in body-and-fender work and in painting cars. Late in life, he used these skills working with his brother, Joe, in renovating and customizing cars and trucks. Greg lived life to the fullest. He loved fast cars and fast fast dirt bikes. He was an avid pocket billiards player, winning numerous tournaments. He loved to fish and found many great fishing holes along the Spokane River. He also enjoyed golfing. He wasn’t a great golfer, but he had fun, leading to many humorous stories of his golfing exploits. Those who knew Greg were amazed at his quick wit that always seemed to cut to the core of any discussion. His directness at times led to some conflict, but it more often than not helped to solve difficult situations.

He will be missed by his many friends and his family members. Please view and sign Greg's online guestbook at www.englishfuneralchapel.com
