PRESS CHRISTMAS FOR ALL: Items for baby lift burden off family
As part of the annual Press Christmas for All Campaign, we share with readers the stories of those applying for help. This is one of them.
After paying all the bills, "Rylee" and her husband, who works full-time, usually had about $30 left to spend.
This was before they welcomed their second baby into the world.
"Our plans changed drastically with this pregnancy," Rylee said.
Rylee was born with pulmonary stenosis. She had a difficult labor with her firstborn. Doctors and family members were concerned about a second pregnancy and the stress it would cause to her heart.
"Lots of uncertainty and fear of the unknown," Rylee said. "We are left with a lot of unanswered questions."
Considered a high risk, Rylee had to frequently undergo medical care and deliver the baby in Spokane. As a North Idaho resident, this was a big drain of gas, time and money. Rylee is a stay-at-home mom who made extra money babysitting for other families, but she had to give that up as her heart condition worsened.
"Asking for help isn't our specialty," she said. "Anything will help."
Press Christmas for All, Charity Reimagined and Panhandle Health heard the call for help and answered. Rylee and her family were awarded baby furniture and other items for their little ones to lift that burden so they can focus on what's important — her health.
Each year, Press readers donate generously to Press Christmas for All. Every penny raised is distributed to Kootenai County residents. All overhead costs are covered by The Hagadone Corp.
The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, the homeless and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working, but living in poverty.
Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand up to help get them back on their feet.
Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from CharityReimagined.Org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
