Antonia “Toni” Madrid, 65, of Hayden, Idaho, joined Our Lord and the angels in Heaven on Nov. 24, 2022, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer.

She was born May 7, 1957, in San Salvador, El Salvador to Candida and Juan Antonio Montes. During her early years, she resided in El Paisnal, El Salvador. She studied and worked closely with The Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and with Jesuit priest Rutilio Grande, who was assassinated during the civil war in El Salvador. Ultimately, Toni was forced to flee her beloved country for asylum.

In 1980, She came to Los Angeles, Calif., where she met Manuel Madrid Jr. They married in 1985 in Los Angeles in the Precious Blood Catholic Church. They had two daughters, Jeanne L. Madrid and Fatima B. Madrid. In 1995, they moved from Paramount, Calif., to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where they had their only son, Jonathan E. Madrid.

Toni worked for years as a skilled solderer and assembly line worker for Advanced Input System company from 2000 until 2021 when she was diagnosed with gastric cancer. She took pride in her work, especially in knowing that the medical devices she worked on helped during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She was a devout Catholic and much of her time was devoted to service at St. Pius X parish. She served as a Greeter, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council Member and Spanish Prayer Group. She had a passion for people and was a pillar of strength for many. She held her faith as highly as her devotion to her family. Being a mother was her greatest joy and she raised her children to follow a vocation of service to their community.

Toni was predeceased by many beloved family, including her husband, Manuel; parents Juan Antonio and Candida Montes; and her brother, Carlos Alberto Montes. She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Madrid of Tacoma, Wash., and Fatima Madrid of Hayden, Idaho; and her son, Jonathan Madrid of Hayden, Idaho.
