VOLLEYBALL

RATHDRUM — Madi Symons had 22 kills, including the game-winner to cap the Coeur d’Alene Vikings’ 25-16, 24-26, 18-25, 25-23, 18-16 victory over the Lakeland Hawks in nonleague play Tuesday night at Hawk Court.

Symons also had 14 digs and two aces for Coeur d’Alene (7-0). Bailey Jaworski had 20 assists, Alexa Stavros 23 digs, Paisley Goings and Olivia Naccarato eight kills each, Gracie Legg and Kiley Hart two aces each.

“It was just grit,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis, who received a victory as her birthday present. “We had errors, they had errors. We had awesome digs, they had awesome digs. It was a battle; it was just going to be who could outwork the other.”

Kenna Simon had 13 kills for Lakeland (5-4). Olivia Zazuetta added 32 assists, Addy Hocking 18 digs, Ziya Munyer four blocks, Ellie Carlson two aces.

“We came out flat tonight and didn’t have the intensity that we usually have,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Kenna did a good job attacking the ball and Ziya did a good job blocking. Addy Hocking was scrappy and dug a lot of tough hits from Coeur d’Alene. Their defense dug a lot of hard hits and kept the ball in play. It was a good fight and we just came up a little short.”

Lakeland plays host to Post Falls tonight.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Sandpoint on Thursday.

MOSCOW — Payton Peugh had 18 kills and 19 digs as the visiting Timberwolves battled past the Bears 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19 in nonleague play at Bear Den.

“That’s the best defense we’ll see all season,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said of Moscow. “We had to earn every single point. They are extremely scrappy; the ball just kept coming back, and we did a good job staying disciplined and didn’t make those repetitive hitting errors that plagued us last year.”

Emberlyn Reynolds added 14 kills for Lake City (4-0).

“Emberlyn always works extremely hard,” Kleinberg said. “The last couple days she has spent extra time with our setters, and has added that dynamic to our game.”

Ella Hosfeld had 37 assists, eight kills and four aces for the T-Wolves, Allie Bowman 28 digs, Aubrey stennett 18 assists and five kills.

Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lewiston.
