NIC TRUSTEES: Respectful behavior needed

| August 31, 2022 1:00 AM

The NIC trustees’ agenda included two items, recognizing a former trustee and the president‘s report. Several individuals spoke on the first item. Each person was to only speak for two minutes on the agenda item. A few individuals could not comprehend that. The two minutes became their time in the limelight.

Why do you disrespect a former trustee so much that you take time to attack her in a public meeting? Any person who has served on an elected board deserves recognition unless the person committed some horrible act. This was juvenile at best but generally a pathetic demonstration of attacking the person who is no longer serving as a trustee.

When the new president spoke, two of the trustees were concerned about a mask mandate. The president stated he would not issue any such mandate. Two trustees continued less a question but rather a statement of we as trustees have such mandate authority and you don’t, now admit it. How juvenile.

We have become vindictive and less caring about our community college. We must elect quality people as trustees. The problem at NIC isn’t the faculty, students, president or staff. Some trustees prefer their egos over our community needs. Since 1933 North Idaho College has provided an entry gate to a better life. Trustee oversight has been an effective part of the process until recently. I wonder why or who now? Rather than spewing hate all trustees need to be teaching respect.
