ELECTION PROCESS: Let’s simplify it

| August 31, 2022 1:00 AM

Probably only a small number of people know who, what, why and how our elected officials provide our governance. I submit that an equal number of randomly picked Americans would have a similar “common sense” needed for the task of government leadership. Our founding fathers would be an example. The leaders stepped up from all walks of life! We, the people, may repeat that heroic act.

Therefore, I suggest that our government election process be made simpler to provide a basis for unification and a means for reducing unequal voting influences.

What if we, the people, were to buy a set of “hats” that represent a number of political offices? In each hat we place the names of “qualified” volunteers somewhat similar to the distribution found in the voting regions. Election day would consist of “drawing a name out of a hat for each office. The phrase, “by the people,” would become real at most or all levels of government.

Qualifications: Minimum age, Citizenship, Education, Willing to work hard for a limited term, Perhaps a law or advanced degree for some offices.

Benefits: Power and wealth separate from politics, No multi-party division, Huge election cost reduction, Office replacement simplified, Reasonable salary, Term limits, Improved equal opportunity, Prep school unifying process before taking office, Electoral process not required, Improved bureaucratic oversight.

Prerequisites: Change Constitution, Pledge of allegiance to the modified constitution, Develop a refresher course with subjects such as Constitution, legislative and bureaucratic processes, civility and foreign policy.
