SPIRIT LAKE — Jacob Yetter caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cole Meidinger to cut the deficit to 18-14 in the fourth quarter for Timberlake, which fell to the South Fremont Cougars in the season opener for both at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field on Friday.

“Cole made some passes in the second half that allowed us to close the gap on them,” said Timberlake coach Kelly Amos, whose team gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown at the start of the third quarter. “But we struggle when we’re trying to throw the ball that many times.”

Timberlake visits Shadle Park next Friday afternoon.

The Tigers outgained the Cougars 234-171 in the game.

“Truthfully, they had one big pass play and a long drive that ate some of the clock,” Amos said. “Defensively, we played well, but just gave up too much clock to them and struggled to get the ball back. We’ve just got some stuff to fix.”
