SCHOOL LEVY: Schools vital to community

| August 24, 2022 1:00 AM

Whether you are a senior, a young adult, or have a family, we all depend on our schools to make our community a desirable place to live. There are a significant number of studies that show successful schools help to improve the economic vitality of our communities, improve the long-term health and happiness of individuals, and increase the civic engagement of citizens.

Having safe and up-to-date schools is essential for student success. The Aug. 30 security and maintenance levy vote is asking our community to show our value and investment in education by funding much-needed security updates and ensure that current deferred maintenance costs do not turn into millions of more dollars of needed repairs.

We are blessed to live in a community with great schools, talented teachers and respected administrators, but we should never take for granted the active investment and engagement required from citizens to have a great school district. On Aug. 30, Coeur d’Alene voters will be asked to continue our investment in future generations through a security and maintenance levy for the Coeur d’Alene School District; I am voting “Yes” on this measure and I encourage you to do so as well.
