PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene frosh Vignale wins in card-off

POST FALLS — Coeur d’Alene freshman Sophia Vignale won girls medalist honors in a card-off with Lewiston’s Mollie Seibly at the Post Falls Invitational at Prairie Falls Golf Club on Tuesday.
Vignale, who shot 82, posted a four on the 7th hole. Seilby had a six on the hole.
“Freshmen are rarely medalists, so it’s a big moment for Sophia and our team,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “I’m really proud of her and how all of our girls played today. They did outstanding as all five shot in the 80s.”
Coeur d’Alene senior Luke West was boys medalist with a 2-under-par 67.
Coeur d’Alene swept team titles in the event.
The teams return to action with the Lake City Invitational on Monday at Coeur d'Alene Golf Club.

Brendan Barry and Gavin Mooney had a goal and an assist each for Timberlake (1-1-0), which plays at St. Maries on Saturday.
Beckett Mortimer had two goals for McCall-Donnelly, which faces Coeur d’Alene Charter today at The Fields in Post Falls starting at 12:30 p.m.

RATHDRUM — Elise Frazier had two goals and three assists for the Vikings in an Inland Empire League win over the Hawks at Sunrise Rotary Field.
“Elise was key for us today with two big goals in the first half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “We started out slow, but she got our momentum going and really carried us today. We’re moving the ball around really well and it was a good game for us. We carried our momentum from Saturday and continue to get better.”
“We hung with them for the first 30 minutes,” Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said. “That was some of the best soccer we’ve played in a while, and I’m proud of the girls for that. We got tired and let some in, but I was really impressed with the girls’ work ethic. Coeur d’Alene is big and fast, and we played with them early on.”

SPIRIT LAKE — Senior Charley Hegstad scored from 35-yards out on a set piece to lift the Tigers past the Vandals in a nonleague match at Van Tuinstra Memorial Stadium.
“She hit it right through the right corner of the post,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “It was just a beautiful goal.”
Sophomore Lucy Simpson scored four goals for Timberlake.
“She has a natural ability of being in the right spot,” Michael said. “We were able to connect the right passes to get it to our players in good spots. It was a great team effort and great to see that the girls didn’t let down all night.”
Lillian Warner scored four goals for McCall-Donnelly, which faces Coeur d’Alene Charter today at The Fields in Post Falls at 2:30 p.m.
“It was a great match and really fun to watch,” Michael said. “The teams were evenly matched and McCall-Donnelly was very quick and skilled with the ball. We were just able to hang in there and did a better job of possessing in the backfield to give our forwards the ability to finish on goal.”
Timberlake (2-0-0) travels to St. Maries on Saturday.
