PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland earns split with Moscow, remains tied for first in 4A IEL

| April 30, 2022 1:15 AM

BASEBALL

MOSCOW — Senior Tanner Vandever had three hits and two runs scored, Cameron Harris struck out 11 in the nightcap for Lakeland, which bounced back from a loss in the opener to beat the Moscow Bears 10-9 to split a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader at the Moscow School District Community Playfields on Friday.

Lakeland lost the first game 11-5.

Raiston Ellwood and Sean Tierney each scored two runs for Lakeland, which scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning to rally to take a 10-7 lead. Garrett Love pitched a scoreless seventh to get the save for Lakeland (4-12, 3-3 4A IEL), which is tied for first in league with Moscow.

“We booted the ball around in the first game and had a couple of bad innings that really hurt us,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “We cleaned it up a bit in the second game, and I was happy we responded with a win. A lot of guys contributed and Cam and Garrett were really good on the mound for us. I kept telling my team that we are only beating ourselves by giving up way too many free bases. If we can clean that up and play to our potential, then I know we will be tough to beat.”

Moscow (8-10, 3-3 4A IEL) hosts Sandpoint in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Lakeland hosts Lake City on Monday.
