Tacos, tequila and a grande side of fun are on the menu for May 5.

Family Promise of North Idaho is hosting the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. The annual dinner/auction will benefit programs of Family Promise, which serves families experiencing or on the verge of homelessness.

"We were unable to have a live dinner auction a year ago," Family Promise Board President Cindy Algeo said Wednesday. "We're looking forward to gathering in person, just celebrating Family Promise and everybody's commitment to it."

For more than 14 years, Family Promise has partnered with more than a dozen area churches to provide meals and shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Each year, more than 300 families are served through emergency community connections, with 18 receiving intensive direct services through homeless prevention or shelter.

"We’re really committed to the mission, which is to transform families experiencing homelessness," Algeo said.

The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will feature a Mexican buffet. Guests will have opportunities to bid on silent and live auction items.

The fundraising goal is $30,000.

"It's really going to help with all facets of our budget," Algeo said. "As a board member and now president for about seven years, I am amazed at the support that Family Promise gathers from the community. The people in North Idaho are just so generous, and the founding churches are very generous," Algeo said. "They have continued to be over the 14 years of the existence of Family Promise."

Tickets are $75 and available until Sunday at: familypromiseni.org.
