Thomas “Tom" Hobson, 64
Thomas “Tom" Hobson passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico March 30, 2022. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Hobson, and brother, John Hobson. He is lovingly remembered by his father, Dewey Hobson, his brother Joseph Hobson, his son, Bennett Hobson (Naomi Hobson) and grandson, Taliesin “Tal” Hobson.
Tom Hobson was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa on June 22, 1957. He graduated from Iowa State University and served in the Marine Corps before moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Tom worked for the Coeur d’Alene School District from 1991 to 2016. He served for a time as transportation director, was the district's first technology director, then served as systems analyst until he retired in 2016. He returned in 2019 to help the district launch the Transfinder program for transportation.
Tom loved cooking with his family and friends. It was a rare weekend that he wasn’t found grilling or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen. He completed several races and triathlons, the crowning achievement of which was Ironman Coeur d’Alene in 2010. Over the last few years, Tom thrived as a grandpa. He’d spend Thursdays watching Tal, and they’d always find an adventure. Some weeks it was baking up a tasty treat, while others it was building a fort where they could watch Tal’s favorite shows together. Tom excelled in his roles throughout life, but he shined as a grandpa.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial on Sunday May 1, 2022, from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. upstairs at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles located at 209 Sherman Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID.
