INVOCATIONS: Time to go
Mr. Van Noy writes (April 23) that while people with religious beliefs different from his own might be welcome here, their “gods” and “spirit entities” are not.
Would Mr. Van Noy feel welcome here if his religious beliefs were not welcome here?
Suppose one of his siblings or children end up living in a town where one of these other religions were the majority, and those beliefs were the ones advocated at city council meetings. How would they feel going to a council meeting where these other “spirit entities” were summoned to give guidance?
Since our government meetings are not only open to all citizens, but are conducted FOR THEM, we should make sure all feel welcome to attend and participate.
It’s time to drop religious invocations from the Coeur d’Alene City Council meetings.
