NIC GOLF: Swan medalist as Cardinal men finish second
BELLEVUE, Wash. — James Swan of North Idaho College shot a 7-under-par 135 for 36 holes to win a Northwest Athletic Conference league match hosted by Highline College and concluding Monday at Bellevue Golf Course.
Swan, a University of Idaho commit, shot 68-67 to win by six strokes for NIC, which finished second to Bellevue by four shots. Xavier De La Rosa tied for fifth for the Cardinals.
“I was proud of the way James played this weekend, he continues to show he’s the best player in the conference,” NIC coach Russell Grove said. “Also proud of Xavier (De La Rosa) stepping up. We just need to find that solid fourth score to finish in the top 10 individually. Over the years every event we’ve had at least our four counting scores in the top 10 we’ve won.”
In the women’s tourney, Emily Elliott was third for NIC, which finished second, 17 strokes behind Bellevue. Megan Light of the Cardinals was fifth.
“We worked a lot on our mid and short irons this last week and I think it paid off,” Grove said. “The girls are headed in the right direction for conference.”
Next up for NIC is a league match hosted by Centralia at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis, Wash.
