PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland puts it together in sweep of Sandpoint
• BASEBALL
RATHDRUM — Cameron Harris had two hits and four RBIs in the opener, then closed out the sweep with 3 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief as the Lakeland Hawks swept the Sandpoint Bulldogs 11-8 and 7-6 in an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Gorton Field on Thursday.
Sam Pemberton also drove in two runs in the first game for Lakeland, which scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to break an 8-8 tie.
In the second game, Garrett Love and Tanner Vandever drove in two runs for Lakeland (3-9, 2-6 IEL), which snapped a nine-game losing streak.
“I’m super proud of the way we competed today,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “We gave up multiple runs in the first inning of both games, but my team never got down and kept battling the whole time. Cam Harris was huge for us at the plate today and had RBIs in timely spots to either put us ahead or tie the game. Both games were big team wins, with everyone contributing. And I love seeing that effort from everyone.”
Ethan Butler drove in two runs in the first game and walked twice, scoring a run in the second game for Sandpoint (2-7, 0-6).
Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Saturday.

MOSCOW — MOSCOW — Jake Bustamante had three of the Trojans’ five hits on the day in a doubleheader against the Bears at the Moscow Community Playfields.
In the opener, Cody Isakson tripled leading off the third inning and scored on a single by Barrett Abendroth as the Bears edged the Trojans 1-0. Post Falls pitcher Tyson Rutherford struck out six and allowed four hits in the first game.
Levi Anderson struck out 10 in six innings and Abendroth pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
“It was a really good pitchers dual in that first game,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Anderson was completely on fire and located his pitches really well. We just had some tough breaks in both games, and just couldn’t catch a break. Nothing seemed to go our way and we couldn’t piece anything together.”
In the nightcap, Moscow scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth with two outs, both on errors, to capture the sweep.
“Hats off to Moscow,” Reese said. “They played two complete games and did the little things to get the job done. At the high school level, to play two close games like that, it’s pretty good baseball.”
Post Falls (9-7, 7-5 IEL) travels to Lake City on Tuesday.
