PREP ROUNDUP: Swallows wins at Genesis Prep invite in playoff

• GOLF

POST FALLS — St. Maries senior Seth Swallows parred the 18th hole, the third hole of a three-player playoff, to capture medalist honors at the Genesis Prep Invitational at The Links Golf Club on Wednesday.

Swallows, who finished tied with a 77 against Freeman’s Ryan Russell and Clark Fork’s Cole Reuter, beat Russell, who bogeyed on the 18th. Reuter was eliminated on the second hole.

Hope Asgaard won girls medalist honors with an 89, leading the Lumberjacks to the girls team title.

Kellogg won the boys team title.

LEWISTON — Joe DuCoeur had three hits, two runs scored and four RBIs in the first game for the Timberwolves in a win over the Bengals at Church Field.

“Joe had a really good game,” Lake City coach Paul Manzardo said. “He swung the bat really well and made some good plays in the field.”

Ethan Taylor had three hits and two runs scored for Lake City, which jumped out to a 5-2 lead after three innings. AJ Currie and Camryn Martindale combined for nine strikeouts for Lake City in the first game.

“AJ was really good and had all three pitches going and really kept Lewiston off balance,” Manzardo said. “Cam did a good job of throwing strikes and our defense played really well all day long.”

Lewiston won the second game 6-5 to get the split.

“Lewiston’s a deep team,” Manzardo said. “Our guys competed for 21 outs and fought really hard and gave it everything they had.”

Lake City (5-6, 5-3 IEL) travels to Coeur d’Alene for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. on Friday.

Lewiston is 12-4, 7-3.

COEUR d’ALENE — Hope Bodak hit a grand slam in the second inning of the first game for the Timberwolves in a nonleague matchup with the Chiefs at Lake City High.

Visiting Moses Lake scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Brooklyn Wullenwaber drove in two runs for Lake City in the nightcap.

Lake City (4-8) travels to Coeur d’Alene on Friday for an Inland Empire League doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.

SPIRIT LAKE — Casey Whaley struck out six in a one-hitter in the opener, then Acacia Pecor fanned 10 in a one-hitter in the nightcap as the Tigers swept an Intermountain League doubleheader from the Badgers at Timberlake High.

Ashley Grantham had three hits and four RBIs on the day, Pecor three RBIs and Alycia Cameron drove in two runs in the first game for Timberlake.

“We just made a lot of solid contact today,” said Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci, whose team finished with 20 hits. “Our pitchers threw the ball really well and did their job today.”

Timberlake (11-2, 6-0 IML) is scheduled to visit Libby, Mont., today.

Bonners Ferry is 1-14, 1-5.
