PREP SOFTBALL: Eight homers, near-perfecto propel Post Falls to sweep of Sandpoint
POST FALLS — The Post Falls Trojans went deep four times in the span of five batters in the second inning of the opener — including back-to-back-to-back homers — and went on to sweep the Sandpoint Bulldogs 12-2 and 18-1 in Inland Empire League softball Saturday.
Kailey Cramer started the homer flurry with a two-run shot for Post Falls (10-4, 7-3 IEL). Sophia Solberg and Alyssa Krause followed with solo homers and two batters later, Eden Nye hit a solo homer.
Winning pitcher McKenna Moak belted a grand slam in the third for the Trojans.
Sophie Nungesser struckout out 12 and walked one in a one-hitter in the nightcap for Post Falls. She was one out from a perfect game when she hit a batter, then gave up Sandpoint’s lone hit three batters later.
Peyton Lozier hit a grand slam for the Trojans in the second inning, and finished with five RBIs. Krause homered twice and knocked in five runs, Cramer went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Grace Richert was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs.
Post Falls plays host to Lakeland on Tuesday in an IEL doubleheader.
Sandpoint (1-8, 0-4) travels to West Valley on Wednesday.

PRIEST RIVER — Acacia Pecor pitched a no-hitter in the opener and Logan Walsh drove in 13 runs on the day as the visiting Tigers swept the Spartans in Intermountain League softball at Priest River Junior High.
Pecor struck out 11 and walked none in the first game for Timberlake (9-2, 4-0 IML). The only runner reached on a hit-by-pitch leading off the fourth.
“She just threw really well today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “She was hitting her spots really well, and our defense was real good behind her.”
Walsh hit a grand slam in the third inning of the opener, and drove in 10 runs in the game. Ashley Grantham hit a two-run shot in the second inning.
In the second game, facing a drawn-in defense where the Priest River center fielder played right behind second base and the corner outfielders pinched in toward the middle, Timberlake lefty slapper Allilah Dykes served a ball past the third baseman and down the left field line for an inside-the-park homer.
Jesi Kitchin went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers.
“It was nice to see some of the other kids get some time on the field,” Lupinacci said.
Brodie Hansen hit a two-run homer in the second game for Priest River (1-9, 1-3).
On Tuesday, Timberlake is home vs. Bonners Ferry in an Intermountain League doubleheader, and Priest River plays host to Kellogg in an IML twinbill.
