PREP ROUNDUP: Another record-setting run for Post Falls' Wood

| April 6, 2022 1:20 AM

• TRACK AND FIELD

COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls senior Sammie Wood broke her own school record in the 3,200-meter run on Tuesday, winning in 10 minutes, 34.64 seconds at Lake City High.

“She was just ready to roll and was rested, which probably helped her,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “She just looked really comfortable running her race. Today wasn’t an ideal situation with the weather being breezy and cold, so to crank out that kind of time, it was pretty amazing.”

Junior Keturah Vogel-Greenwood won in the 100 and 200, sophomore Danica McCormick the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles and Hazel Kunkel the 800 and 1,600 for Lake City.

Both schools will compete in the Kootenai County Challenge on Friday at Timberlake High.

Johnson, Viking girls

runner-up at Moscow invite

MOSCOW — Lake City sophomore Wyatt Johnson finished runner-up with an 82 at the Moscow Invitational at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

Lakeland, paced by senior Richie Thomas’ 82, finished third with a 349, followed by Lake City with a 365 and Post Falls 378.

“Shooting a 342 is reasonable, and we’re going to get that down,” Lakeland coach Rick Anderson said. “We’ll be competitive by the end of the year. It was some tough conditions and a tough deal for everyone. Richie has been consistent all year and has been very consistent off the tee. He’s been very impressive to see so far.”

Junior Taylor Potter shot a 95 for the Coeur d’Alene girls, who finished second with a 397.

“The girls fought the course and conditions today as it was so windy on the Palouse,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “I’m so very proud of their resilience and effort as it was a difficult trip around the course today.”

Bryden Brown of Moscow was boys medalist with a 78, leading the Bears to the team title with a 333.

Mollie Seibly of Lewiston was girls medalist with a 90, leading the Bengals to the team title with a 379.
