PREP BASEBALL: Lakeland battles back, but falls to Moscow

| April 3, 2022 1:30 AM

RATHDRUM — Lakeland closed the deficit to 8-5 with a run in the fourth inning of the first game, but the visiting Moscow Bears pulled away with an 11-run sixth inning for a 21-5 win in an Inland Empire League game at Corbit Field on Saturday.

In the nightcap, Moscow limited Lakeland to one hit in a 16-0 win to complete the sweep.

“It was not a good day for us today,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “I felt like my team showed up ready to play, but we didn’t execute very well. It was one of those days that if it could go wrong, it did.”

Roan Reilly had two RBIs in the first game for Lakeland (1-5, 0-2 IEL), which committed four errors in the first game.

Barrett Abendroth had three RBIs in the second game for Moscow (5-2, 2-0).

Lakeland hosts Coeur d’Alene next Saturday at noon.

“It’s gut check time for us,” Bradbury said. “And I’m hoping we will respond in the way good teams do. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and that’s exactly what I challenged my players to do.”
