Rodney David Mitchell, 80

Rod went home to meet his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2022. He died as a result of complications of a spinal stroke. He was born March 5, 1942, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to June and C. Marshall Mitchell.

Rod lived in Coeur d’Alene until age 13, then moved with his family to Spokane Valley. He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1960, from high school, he went to Eastern Washington University, he then left there in 1963.

Rod was married to Kathy on April 1, 1967. He was a part owner of Music City from 1980 until 2009, when he sold his share to his partner. He loved his kids and grandkids dearly. Some of his best times were coaching young kids’ basketball or baseball. Rod had a spinal stroke in August of 2010 and was wheelchair bound from that day until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; sister, Linda Mitchell of Post Falls; daughter, Kerri Mitchell of Lebanon, Ore.; son, Kevin Mitchell (Vicki) of Clarkston, Wash.; daughter, Kim Gustafson (Paul) of Rathdrum; son, Chad Mitchell (Brittney) of Coeur d’Alene. Grandchildren: Seth Jones, Tyler Mitchell, Kadee McGwier, Mitchell McGwier, Cameron Mitchell, Carter Mitchell, Cruz Mitchell, Braxton Mitchell, Sophia Mitchell, Greyson Mitchell, Griffin Mitchell, and Ryder Mitchell; great-grandchildren; Leighton Thomson, Kaidance McGwier, Axel McGwier, Emery Jones, Kiko Jones, Jackson Gittel, and Kendall Gittel. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters, Halle and Emma Mitchell.

A Viewing for Rod will be held from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Lake City Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815, with a graveside to follow at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way. Reception back at the church following.
