Manzardo sees first action in major league spring training game

VENICE, Fla. — Former Lake City High and Washington State star Kyle Manzardo drew a four-pitch walk in the top of the ninth inning, and recorded a pair of putouts at first base after entering the game in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Tampa Bay Rays' 5-1 spring training victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

Manzardo was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round, with the 63rd overall pick, in last July's MLB first-year player draft.

Manzardo saw action in 13 games last year with Tampa Bay's rookie team in the Florida Complex League (formerly Gulf Coast League), batting .349 (15 for 43) with two home runs and eight runs batted in.

Melaleuca donation to result in south end zone video board at Albertsons Stadium

BOISE — Thanks to a $4.5 million gift from Melaleuca, a privately held health products manufacturer based in Idaho Falls, Boise State Athletics intends to install the largest video board in the Mountain West Conference in the south end zone of Albertsons Stadium, BSU athletic director Jeramiah Dickey announced Thursday.

Melaleuca’s donation is the largest one-time facility gift in the history of Boise State Athletics.

The project is subject to approval by the State Board of Education at its April meeting.

The state-of-the-art video board is slated to be 120 feet wide and 50 feet tall. At 6,000 square feet, the new board would be roughly 1,800 square feet larger than the largest video board in the conference.

“When it comes to TV screens and scoreboards, bigger is better,” Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot said.

Upon SBOE approval, Boise State will partner with the Boise State University Foundation to select a vendor to produce and install the high-definition LED board.

WSU's Leger-Walker earns second WBCA All-American honorable mention nod

MINNEAPOLIS – Washington State women's basketball sophomore Charlisse Leger-Walker was named to the 2021-21 Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American honorable mention team Thursday. It is Leger-Walker's second-consecutive WBCA All-American honorable mention selection.

Leger-Walker ended the 2021-22 regular season as the Pac-12 leader in points scored for the second consecutive year, with 483 points. The guard also had the most 20-point games collected by a Pac-12 player this season, eclipsing the 20-point plateau 11 times.
