MY TURN: Ask the priest

| September 29, 2021 1:00 AM

Thanks to Terry Harwood for his Saturday My Turn.

Puts me in mind of the old joke told by many a priest:

As the rains are beginning to fall a police cruiser shows up at the priest’s door. “Get in father, there’s a huge storm approaching.”

“No, you go on son, the Lord will provide.”

Pretty soon the water is up to the second floor windows and a guy in a row boat comes by.

“Get in father, this is the storm of the century.”

“Move along son. I’m fine. The Lord will provide.”

Pretty soon the water is approaching the peak of the roof where the priest sees a cage being lowered by helicopter.

“Climb in father. This is your last chance!”

“No, no,” as he waves them off. “The Lord will provide.”

So he drowns and as he approaches the Pearly Gates and faces St. Peter he says, “St. Peter, I was a man of faith. Why didn’t the Lord save me?”

And of course St. Peter says, “He sent you a patrol car, a row boat and a helicopter. What more did you want Him to do?”

There are people in this community who act as though the virus is a gift from God, but the intelligence to defeat it is not. Consider please, that both of these things are true.

God gave us the brains to save ourselves.

Use them. Get vaccinated.
