COEUR d’ALENE — Janae Rayborn, a sophomore from Lake City High, had 11 kills and six digs for North Idaho College in a 25-20, 25-18, 25-9 win over the Blue Mountain Timberwolves of Pendleton, Ore., in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Christianson Gymnasium on Wednesday.

“Today was a good win for us,” NIC coach Kelsey Stanley said. “We have been working hard on ‘team’ mentality and tonight, the girls played together. One game at a time, but I’m sure happy with the direction we are going.”

WENATCHEE, Wash. — One error cost the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference match to the Knights.

Wenatchee Valley’s Gino Miranda scored on an unassisted goal in the 41st minute as the Knights (4-3-2, 3-1-0 NWAC) handed the Cardinals (6-1-0, 2-1-0) their first loss of the season.

“We had a bad giveaway at the end of the first half,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “We were pretty clean in the back line, but made one mistake and they punished us for it. We had some chances, but couldn’t get the right shot or contact on the ball. Wenatchee Valley is probably the best team we’ve played, and play good, disciplined soccer. We’re seven games into the season and we’ve been scored on twice. Hopefully we’ll take this as motivation and move on toward Pasco on Saturday.”

NIC travels to Columbia Basin on Saturday.

First half — 1, WVCC, Gino Miranda (unassisted), 41:00. Second half — none.

Shots on goal — NIC 8, WVCC 7.

Saves — NIC, Stuart Herringer 7, WVCC, Ty Miller 8.
