CONSTITUTION WEEK SPOTLIGHT

| September 21, 2021 1:00 AM

Today is Day Five of Constitution Week commemorating the signing of our Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

Since 1952, the Constitution has been on display in the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C. The bullet-proof cases holding the Constitution contain gas and vapor to keep humidity at 40% for preservation.

Each night the Constitution is lowered into a reinforced vault designed to withstand a nuclear explosion. Usually only pages one and four are on display. On Sept. 17, Constitution Day, all four pages are displayed.

The Constitution was kept at Fort Knox during both world wars.

Notable Quote: “The United States Constitution has proved itself the most marvelously elastic compilation of rules of government ever written.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt.
