PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland takes two in tri-match

SPIRIT LAKE — Lakeland won the final two sets to beat Coeur d’Alene 19-25, 25-12, 13-25, 25-19, 15-13, then swept host Timberlake 25-11, 25-15, 25-10 in a tri-match Thursday night.

Against Coeur d’Alene, Addie Kiefer had 16 kills, 17 digs and four aces for Lakeland (6-5). Ellie Carlson had 14 digs and four aces, Sam Daniels 20 assists, Kenna Simon four blocks.

For Coeur d’Alene, Madi Symons had 25 kills, 12 assists and a block, Maicy Nelson had seven kills and nine digs, Olivia Dixon 15 digs and three aces, Hailey Wuolle 32 assists and three aces.

Against Timberlake, Kiefer had 15 kills for Lakeland, Olivia Staudinger 14 digs, Daniels 23 assists, Bethany Johnson five blocks, Emily Morlan three aces.

For Timberlake, Sami Wilfong had 10 assists, McKennah Kronenberg four kills and a block, and Emma Patrick seven digs.

“We played hot and cold tonight, but showed some grit and persevered,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Addie Kiefer had an all-around outstanding night.”

Coeur d’Alene split its two matches, beating Timberlake 25-9, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15 in its second match. Symons had 13 kills, 14 assists and four aces for Coeur d’Alene (2-3). Wuolle had 16 assists, Delaney Gosch eight digs and three aces, Olivia Naccarato three blocks, Dixon 10 digs, Alexa Stavros three aces.

For Timberlake (0-3), Wilfong had 14 digs, 19 assists and two aces against Coeur d’Alene. Jaycee Pratt had eight kills and two aces, Patrick 12 digs, Emma Torr two aces.

Timberlake is scheduled to play at the Freeman Rip-A-Shot Tournament on Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to play host to Lake City on Tuesday.

Lakeland’s next scheduled match is Tuesday at Sandpoint, though the Bulldogs have had to cancel matches Thursday and Saturday due to COVID-19 issues within the Sandpoint program.

Post Falls splits

In tri-match

POST FALLS — The host Trojans lost to Moscow 23-25, 25-17, 11-25, 28-26, 15-12, then beat Gonzaga Prep 25-13, 25-22, 25-17 in a tri-match at The Arena.

Against Moscow, Kylie Munday had 20 kills, 20 assists, two blocks and an ace for Post Falls (8-2). Rylee Hartwig added 14 kills and an ace, Kassie Gardiner 38 assists, Hanna Christensen three blocks, Claire Holding 21 digs, Brooke Minden 14 digs.

Against Gonzaga Prep, Munday had nine kills, nine assists and nine digs, Sarah Rogne nine kills, Hartwig five kills, two blocks and six aces, Gardiner 15 assists, Holding 14 digs and three aces.

For Gonzaga Prep, Bailey Benson had 10 kills against Post Falls, Sidny Pederson had nine digs, Kate Palalek 19 assists.

In the other match, Gonzaga Prep defeated Moscow 25-21, 19-25, 18-25, 25-21, 16-14.

Post Falls plays host to Lewiston on Tuesday.

SPOKANE — Nellie Reese had 33 assists and four kills as the visiting Timberwolves defeated the Tigers in nonleague play.

Hanah Stoddard added 23 kills and five assists for Lake City (8-1). Ella Hosfeld had 15 assists and five kills, Avery Wright five aces, Aubrey Stennett six digs.

“I liked our bench players coming in with confidence,” said Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg, singling out the play of junior hitter Payton Peugh. “We focused a lot on team yesterday in practice, and that came through on the court. We also focused on utilizing our middles, and all four middles (Emberlyn Reynolds, Kamryn Pickford, Jessalyn Wilson and Dorie Kiesbuy) did a great job.”

Lake City travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Kootenai

HARRISON FLATS — The visiting Knights beat the Warriors 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 in nonleague play.

For Kootenai (0-5), Tayva Maitland had five kills, Mahalia Loucks three kills, Kaylee Lupo three assists.

On Tuesday, Lakeside plays host to Clark Fork, and Kootenai travels to Wallace.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior forward Steven Ball had two goals and an assist for the Vikings in a nonleague win over the Badgers at Coeur d’Alene High.

“Steven just had the most space in the game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “Bonners Ferry did a good job of defending the space around their goal, but Steven played with the best soccer IQ today. He was the one to figure out where he needed to be and get the shot off.”

Isaac Fritts had a goal and assist for Coeur d’Alene (6-0), which travels to Post Falls on Saturday.

Bonners Ferry is 5-1-1.

“We were able to mess with some different formations that we haven’t had a chance to go with,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “The youngsters got a lot of playing time tonight. It’s nice to see the chemistry starting to develop. Because of our youth, we had to experiment and see what our new normal was going to be like.”

Timberlake (4-1, 2-1 IML) travels to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.
