Solid Waste facilities to close early Sept. 12

All Kootenai County facilities will close two hours early at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.

The facilities, specifically the landfill and two transfer stations, will reopen at 8 a.m. the following day.

Solid Waste Director John Phillips said the early closure was to host an appreciation gathering for over 60 department employees.

“As a department, we feel like it’s important to let our employees know we care,” Phillips said. “It’s difficult to get our employees together because we are open seven days a week.”

The facilities will still be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, and Phillips said the department apologizes for any public inconvenience.

“We face the same difficulties everyone else does with personnel right now,” Phillip said. “We are trying to retain the employees we have and tell them a job well done.”
