COURTESY: Lost in traffic

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of signs in Coeur d’Alene saying ‘be kind.’ I think to myself what a sad situation we’re in when we actually have to remind people to be kind to each other.

What has happened to common courtesy? People have forgotten how to say thank you to the people providing service.

Are you holding the door open for the person leaving or coming into a building? When you’re driving, do you block the driveway to a home, business or street to maybe save four seconds to get to your destination? When you tailgate at a stop light, not leaving a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, do you yell at them when the light turns green because they didn’t go fast enough?

It appears we’ve become a society with our blinders on. Our only concern is making sure that we’re first and we’re getting the most money and things. This disrespect and lack of common courtesy has been going on for last 10 years.

The next time you’re ready to yell at someone because you don’t like what they are doing or where they are from, ask yourself: When is the last time I was courteous, and where was I born?
