NAMPA — Through their first two games, the Lakeland Hawks had scored just nine points total.

On Friday night, the Hawks surpassed that total before the first quarter was even over.

Junior Thomas Calder scored three touchdowns, two on the ground, as Lakeland routed the Columbia Wildcats 39-14 in a nonleague football matchup of 4A schools.

Calder scored on runs of 70 and 27 yards for Lakeland (1-2), and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from junior Caysen Loutzenhiser.

Richie Thomas opened the scoring for Lakeland with a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown. Mason Burcham and Skylar Huber also had picks for the Hawks.

Devon Suko threw a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes for the Hawks, to Jackson Lutz and Alden Waddington.

Calder finished with 101 yards rushing. Waddington had four receptions for 90 yards.

Lakeland plays host to West Valley of Spokane next Friday.

RIGBY — Post Falls fell behind 21-0 after one quarter to Rigby, ranked No. 1 in 5A in this week’s media poll, in the nonleague game.

But Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said his squad, now 0-2, played well in the second and fourth quarters against a Rigby team that has played in the last two state title games, including a win over Coeur d’Alene in 2019.

“I believe our players got better this week,” said Bennett, whose squad lost 35-7 to Sandpoint last week. “We executed better in all three phases tonight.”

Jaxon Anderson ran for a touchdown and passed to Carson Tucker for another score for Post Falls.

Bennett said Dalton Wild also made some nice catches for Post Falls. On defense, Zach Clark, Holden Babowicz, Chase Berg and Trevor Miller were standouts.

Tiger Adolpho, a two-year starter at quarterback, threw three touchdown passes for Rigby (2-0), also nicknamed the Trojans. Lucas Mikkola rushed for three touchdowns.

“Rigby’s good; they’re talented on both sides of the ball,” Bennett said. “They have an experienced quarterback that is tough to tackle; he’s big and throws the ball well. They’re going to make a long run in the playoffs.”

Post Falls plays host to Moses Lake next Friday.

“Our line was significantly better, and our ability to run our offense was significantly better,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “Our defense was better, as far as making plays. From week one to week two is a big jump for us.”

Kale Pasley scored a pair of touchdowns for Timberlake (1-1), and James Billingsley ran for two scores.

“Ashton played a fantastic game,” Amos said. “He threw the ball well, and he ran our offense so well today.

“We made some great progress this week. Shadle had some athletes that were tough to handle, and it was nice to see our defense step up and control their offense. We just played really physical football.”

POST FALLS — Cadence Wilson scored in the first minute and finished with four goals as the host Panthers blanked the Spartans in Intermountain League play at The Fields at Real Life.

Rebekah Hines also had four goals and an assist for Coeur d’Alene Charter (4-0-0, 4-0-0 IML). Isabella Lucky and Claire Leahy each scored twice for the Panthers.

Priest River is 0-2-1, 0-1-1.

“These girls have had a long week with school starting and playing two games during this first week of school,” Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “Tonight was just about going out and having fun connecting passes and finding the back of the net. My non-starters got to play about half the game or more and we saw some great stuff from them, including four of the goals. One of our freshmen, Claire (Leahy), found herself in some good positioning and put it in the back of the net twice under pressure. It was great to see her and a few of our other non-starters grow in confidence on the pitch tonight. Priest River definitely has some athletes and a great goalkeeper.”
