EDUCATION: Expand horizons

I’ve seen and heard many comments about what should be taught in our schools. I’m puzzled by the fact that history and the sciences are often excluded from those comments.

Do we really expect all parents to give their children perspective on how we, as a nation, got to where we are or how complicated the entirety of the world is? That puts undereducated children at a disadvantage throughout their lives.

In a free society, others will have greater understanding and greater ability to navigate through life because there will be schools or parents that teach more than the three “R’s.”
