CONSUMER ALERT: Home warranties

This is a warning to everyone out there about home warranties. We have had the most terrible experience with “Choice Home Warranty.”

Oh, they will repair some small item, but if your A/C or furnace goes out, forget it! They give you the runaround, and have you get all these service men to come out (at your expense) promising to reimburse you for anything over $75, but that’s a joke also. Our experience is that they do not pay!

This started around the 1st of July when our A/C stopped working. CHW sent out a service man to diagnosis the problem and he said it would cost too much to repair and it should be replaced. He had to shut down our furnace because it has a crack in it and would expel carbon monoxide into our home, so here we are without A/C in the summer, very hot! And trying to get CHW to honor their warranty.

Why did they deny our claim? They said: It’s not “wear and tear.” Our A/C is 13 years old, and they say it’s not wear and tear? Wow!

Now, for the furnace we had to get another service man out again at our expense. So far it’s cost $200. To make a long story short, we paid for two more service men at their request and each time CHW said: “It’s not wear and tear!” In 13 years what would it be?

So for everyone’s information out there, be very careful about home warranties. I’ve been told they are all like this.

I’ve turned our complaints into The BBB, the attorney general, our lawyer and now this letter. They take your money every month, but won’t deliver on their warranty. We’ve been told they’ve had about 7,000 complaints! I’d call this FRAUD. What would you call it?
