Police pumpkins

COEUR d'ALENE — A pumpkin from a decorating contest held among employees with Idaho State Police in District 1 in Coeur d’Alene looks a lot like ISP Sgt. Sean Lind.

So much, in fact, it won.

More than 1,000 people voted for their favorite of 10 decorated pumpkins posted to the ISP Facebook and Instagram pages. The pumpkin decorated by 6-year-old Tyler Hodl and his family was the runaway winner.

Turns out, Hodl's dad is a detective with ISP in Coeur d’Alene and very good friends with Lind.

Tyler and his folks were decorating the pumpkin for the annual ISP District 1 contest when Tyler noticed their Trooper pumpkin was starting to look like Sgt. Lind.

"So they went with it!" said a statement from ISP.

The pumpkin is even holding a ticket book with Sgt. Lind’s car number!

"Of course, Sgt. Lind took it all in stride, and the pumpkin took the top prize handily over some tough competition," ISP said.

Instead of taking the winning pumpkin home, Tyler came to the District 1 office after school Monday and presented it to Sgt. Lind — who "actually does smile from time to time," according to the ISP statement.
