Bud Sanders, 86

Bud Sanders passed away peacefully in his sleep on Oct. 28, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, in 2019. He was born in Post Falls, Idaho, to Ida and Earl Sanders on Jan. 9, 1935. Bud grew up in Post Falls, where he attended school and graduated from Post Falls High. He continued his education at North Idaho Junior College. He met his first wife, Bonnie, during this time and they were married. They had two children, Phillip and Lori.

Bud met, fell in love, and married Kay Freer in 1974. A few years later Bud and Kay literally built their home in Sunrise Terrace. In 1992 Bud and Kay moved to Hayden, where they built their new home.

Bud had a long career as a land surveyor, first working for the state of Idaho and then joining a private company, Durtschi & Associates. At Durtschi he became partner until he retired.

Bud and Kay enjoyed many activities together, including competitive bowling, which filled many years with travel, enjoyment and lasting friendships. They also very much enjoyed fishing, especially for silvers. Bud and Kay were well known for their excellent smoked and canned fish. Bud also enjoyed going tuna and sturgeon fishing. Gardening was a shared passion, always with an abundant crop. They took great pleasure in their homemade salsa, pickles, as well as canned vegetables.

He is survived by son Phillip Sanders (Greta) and daughter Lori (John) Mason; grandchildren: Mike Sanders, Michelle Sanders, Cassandra Sanders Agnew, Ross Mason, Desiree Dunham; stepchildren: Dave Freer, John (Tammy) Freer, Janice Freer and Bob (Katy) Freer; grandchildren: Larissa Freer Newton, Cody Freer, Chad and Matthew Freer; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
