The Community Library Network Foundation is hosting "Lyrics for Libraries," a musical event this Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rathdrum Community Center to help raise money for future projects.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Community Library Network Foundation actively raises funds for seven locations around the county in Post Falls, Rathdrum, Hayden, Pinehurst, Spirit Lake, Athol and Harrison.

With proceeds from the Lyrics for Libraries event, Treasurer Tom Lien said the foundation is interested in assisting the smaller libraries in Athol, Spirit Lake and Harrison.

Athol, he said, wants to revise the children's library space. Spirit Lake needs new computer equipment. Both Spirit Lake and Harrison are requesting outside furniture to allow the public to use Wi-Fi services after hours.

"A lot of small towns like Harrison, Pinehurst, Athol and Harrison don't have access to technology the library provides during open hours because they work for a living," Lien said. "We try to provide that connectivity to everyone. Often people drive to the library and sit in their car to connect."

In the past, the foundation has aided projects like Wilma's Realm at the Post Falls Library — sound-proof glass-enclosed teen area — and expanding the Rathdrum facility meeting space.

Featuring the Blues and Americana-inspired singer-songwriter Alison Joy Williams, Friday's event is for those 21 and older, with seating and hors d'oeuvres available for participants. A no-host bar will be provided by Kelsey's.

Tickets are $20 per person or $35 for a couple. Raffle tickets will be available at the door, and the foundation is planning a silent auction with themed baskets and gift certificates.

"We're always looking for any ideas and input from the community on what they think the library needs to serve patrons in their towns," Lien said.
